Today I was thanked privately for creating and maintaining a #freebsd port.
This literally never happened in any other project I was involved in, and I am taking it as a sign of a healthy community.

Sooo.... iocage + vnet works super nicely on #freebsd. Somehow hadn't gotten around to testing, I guess the big warning about it being unstable on iocage's docs had something to do with me putting that off.

Regarding the whole antifa situation in the US, this is worth remembering…

I just ran against a weird issue in a Debian Docker image where 'echo stuff > /dev/stderr' would **replace** stderr's current content with "stuff".

Had to s! > /dev/stderr! >> /dev/stderr!g to get the thing to work properly O.ô.

Wondering if it's a Docker thing.

2020: We have RFC6578 [1] since 2012 and still exactly zero decent WebDAV clients with synchronisation.

I'd even pay for something like mountainduck.io (even if it were OSS and free and whatever if they gave me the option), but mind you, it's only for Mac/Windows.

Our generalised "OH SHINY" culture is detrimental long-term if nobody is willing do the "boring" maintenance work.
Funnily enough, there is plenty of innovation waiting to happen at work in the latter.
And in inter-personal relationships, those are *precisely* the rewarding bits.

Learnt a thing or two of #freebsd
releng team's work with that, could come in handy some day.

TIL: not to add Glue Records *and* use that immediately as a Name Server.

Note to self: if CI is telling you that the build failed.
Maybe look into it even if it looks like the thing worked anyway :-).

Frage im Podcast gehört "Sollte man, sich dann aus Pflichtgefühl auch häufiger Melden, oder ist es OK mal zu sagen 'nein, es ist gerade so stressig, wir können es nicht leisten'."

So, I wrote down how to quickly update a #freebsd port.
I reckon this was a very easy one :-) but I sometimes forget a couple things myself and would rather find them quickly.
