Microsoft's Deliverability Support Team is reaching a new low:
> Please provide us a with a screenshot of the complete error message with the present time stamp so that we can investigate further.
We are talking about servers talking SMTP to each other and about their incompetent/monopolistic practices.
I am getting fed up enough, that I started considering finding a EU civil institution willing to pursue a legal process against what we all have known for years that Microsoft does re: Email.
Finally, a great write-up in English about something that's been making the rounds:
TL;DR: the EU is changing things and the direct effect might be that funding for many open source projects would become short and harder to come by soon
Do I read this right? #pixelfed implemented LDAP with an #nlnet grant at version v0.11.3 (https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/pull/3296) and now it's basically undocumented, deprecated and pretty much not supported?
Not that it ever was a great setup, but it was supposed to work '-.-
powershell rant
Argh, the thing I hate the most about Powershell is how similar it gets to standard shell tools for some things, but then:
> ls | grep stuff
grep : The term 'grep' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function
Or, the worse one:
> rm -rf .\trash
Remove-Item : A parameter cannot be found that matches parameter name 'rf'.

Like, I'd actually prefer it to be totally different as DOS was, than to have these very obvious inconsistencies.
Ach… Manchmal muss man bloß Rilke wieder lesen.
Lovely #fediverse operators / #fediadmin, can someone point me to best practices when it comes to spinning up test instances that are designed to be deleted after some time?
It is unclear to me what happens in #activitypub when a server that was known disappears. I know this has happened in the past in rather traumatic ways (instance gone, backups gone, ...), so it must be somewhat well-supported.
Given that this is planned and designed though, I'd like to do things "properly" :-).
On today's work: UI testing by switching language to German, and seeing how bad texts overflow.
I somehow ended up programming some Pascal today, it had been... several years XD.
Tourismus News Rant
<sarcasm>
</sarcasm>
Ugh... wieder soweit: https://bundeswahlleiterin.de/europawahlen/2024/informationen-waehler/deutsche-im-ausland.html
Achievement unlocked: found and fixed a leap year bug
I have been figuring out that the best things to do with my time are those whose impact compounds.
With this rationale, I am fishing for someone that has interest in contributing to #twisted #python and needs some support / supply of patches.
If that's you or someone you know, do reach out.
Turns out, actually landing patches requires love and dedication, the former I have, the latter I sometimes lack (work and life happen >,<).
I wrote a #yubikey/PGP/SSH thing and forgot to talk about it:
https://evilham.com/en/blog/2023-yubikey-PGP-SSH-auth/
It goes into details of managing PGP keys on a YubiKey, and how we can use that to SSH into machines with a single physical token.
This is not something I've seen fully documented anywhere, and some details are #freebsd-specific; if you try following them and need help getting things to work on #debian-based systems: do reach out. It can possibly take me less to reply than for you to find the answer :-)
I realised today has been of those days, in which I've used all languages I'm proficient in, but I struggle to remember which language was used with whom.
Some can be deduced (person X expresses themselves better in language L), but the memory of the conversations is basically translated into some babel that could fit whichever language.
If my Basque/#Euskara is ever good enough, things will get funkier.
I made some minor changes to my website (and a not so minor one: light theme!) and remembered that you can play #tetris there by typing out the Konami code ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konami_Code )
Try it out and enjoy the music! Open https://evilham.com and type: ↑↑↓↓←→←→BA
rant
Dolibarr is such a patchwork program.
Why on Earth would anyone create an API to POST something, but not to GET it.
Just why.
Besides: half of the things are named in French, the other half in English, it's all extremely confusing, I'd just rather the whole thing be in French instead, and it's not a language I'm proficient in.
At this point, I'm between:
- Writing a bunch of PHP
- Start a migration plan *away* from Dolibarr and talk people out of using it whenever they mention it
